It was a flight from Dunedin that set things in motion for me. A passenger sitting across the aisle was not particularly enjoying the weather, which was a bit bumpier than usual. I observed as they reached above their head and pressed the crew call button. It lit up, and a few moments later a flight attendant arrived to assist the passenger in need.
I recall another time some years ago with a teacher at a school where I was investigating a problem with a faulty door. “We have a student who is now too afraid to use the bathroom at school in case they get locked in again”. This was a real and urgent problem for the poor student for whom the door would not open. Trapped in the bathroom, they were unable to alert anyone to their situation and remained there until someone noticed their absence and went looking.
There are many similar stories I have heard in various forms since starting my tenure with Miracle Electronics. How do we ensure that a person who needs assistance can raise a discreet call for help which will be heard and answered from somewhere out of sight and earshot with the reliability and timely response of that flight attendant?
I was reminded of the Nurse Call systems we make at Miracle Electronics and how they ensure help is at hand when it is needed in hospitals and care facilities across Australasia. The heart of the system is the ASSIST System Controller. Installed in a discreet location it manages all active calls and ensures all notifications get where they need to.
These are complemented by ASSIST buttons with Local Indicators. These backlit wall mounted buttons which can be located wherever a discreet call for assistance may be required such as near toilets or in treatment rooms. These are enhanced with a bright over door LED light that can be placed outside the area in an easily noticeable location.
To complete the picture an ASSIST System Indicator responds to all active notifications on the system. These are placed in commonly used locations such reception areas, waiting areas or staff rooms, providing a visual indication along with alert tones to suit each of the three selectable system priorities. The backlight colour of the ASSIST Button indicates the selected priority. Local Indicators direct connect to any one of three available colours allowing for site specific alert notifications.
